Classical To Dance

Paul Gorry is an award-winning British record producer, songwriter, and filmmaker.

From a young age, Paul was mentored by Thriller songwriter Rod Temperton, who helped him develop his writing talent from his home in Los Angeles. This resulted in Paul getting his first writing commission with Motown legend Edwin Starr – whom Paul lived with on his Warwickshire farm while writing. Whilst still in his early 20’s, Paul then caught the eye of Bono and Tom Waits friend Rob Partridge who secured Paul a publishing contract to Miles Copeland’s publishing company Bugle songs.

Paul’s classical background swayed him heavily towards keyboards and dance music – a genre he says has the same harmonic arrangements as classical music – and his skills resulted in him working with notable producers and engineers such as Dave Burnham (Primal Scream, Faithless, Happy Mondays), Richard Manwaring (Talking Heads, Eric Clapton & Van Morrison) and Donal Hodgson (The Police, The Pogue’s & Tina Turner). During this point Paul gained his first number 1 in the dance charts, leading onto more work with higher level artists such as David Bowie and the LSO.

Paul spent most of his early life working in studios such as Britannia Row, Olympic, Trident and The Townhouse whilst he was signed to BMG and subsequently Arista, where he quickly developed his skills in production.

Whilst at Britannia Row, Paul became very good friends with Legendary Record Producer George Shilling (Oasis, Blur, Mary J Blige) and they’ve remained friends ever since. Collaborating on many projects together. George also mixes all of the artist releases that Paul produces for NMG.
